The town of Murphy always has the best Independence Day celebration, and this year is no different! If you’re going to be joining us for July 4th in Murphy NC, be sure to make your way to Konehete Park for a full day of activities, games, food, and so much more. We’ve got the scoop on everything you need to know about this awesome event!
Murphy NC July 4th Parade
The Independence Day fun will kick off with Murphy’s July 4th Parade, which begins at 2 p.m. at the L&N Depot’s parking lot on Hiawassee Street. This wonderful parade will feature veterans of all ages, horses, fancy vehicles, and flags representing each branch of the U.S. military. After making its way through downtown Murphy, the parade will end at Konehete Park.
Food Vendors, Games, and a Fishing Derby
Konehete Park will be filled with food vendors and bounce houses/inflatables. Additionally, there will be a great collection of family games and competitions on tap, including the Kids Fishing Derby, which is open to children 12 and under. In years past, Murphy has also organized sack races, an egg toss, a water balloon toss, and a Frisbee toss.
The Famous Peanut Drop
The Peanut Drop is a beloved Murphy tradition! A low flying plane will zoom over Konehete Park and drop hundreds of peanuts for guests to pick up and eat. Check out the video below to see a Peanut Drop from 2011:
Hot Air Balloon Rides
Weather permitting, the town of Murphy will offer hot air balloon rides leaving from Konehete Park that offer stunning aerial views of the mountains. In past years, the cost of each ride has been $5 per person.
Fireworks
The July 4th celebration will end with an amazing fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Murphy’s fireworks seem to get bigger and better each year, so 2018 should be an absolute blast!
