Summer in the Mountains of North Carolina

It’s May and what do they say…..”April showers bring May flowers” – & Murphy is proving that to be true!  Murphy is becoming colorful with the wild flowers, shrubs, annuals and perennials all beginning to bloom.  The temperatures are rising into the mid-70’s, low 80’s and the t-shirts and shorts are beginning to show and it’s time to put away the sweaters and heavy coats.   It’s a great time to get out and enjoy some outdoor activities, like catching a baseball or softball game or take part in a game of basketball at Konehete Park in Murphy.  Konehete park offers lots for outdoor activities.  Enjoy the Murphy River Walk, that meanders beside the river and elsewhere throughout Murphy.  Perfect for a nice stroll, daily walk, jog or a run.  Different events are also held at Konehete Park like Bubbles In The Park and Kid’s Fair.  Across the road from Konehete Park is a great place for everyone in the family.  The Hiwassee Valley Pool and Wellness Center offers a large olympic size pool, workout facilities and tennis courts.  Bring the family and enjoy a picnic – there are lots to do here!  Summer in the mountains of North Carolina also brings out the boaters, jet skiers and wake boarders.  There are so many lakes in the area to choose from like Hiwassee Lake, Appalachia Lake, Chatuge Lake or Nottley Lake and they are perfect for taking in the beautiful mountain scenery while out boating.  Lake Hiwassee has Mountain View Marina, Shooks Marina and Duke’s.  Lake Chatuge has The Ridges Marina and Boundry Waters Marina.  Lake Nottley has Nottley Marina and Cozy Cove Marina – with all of these having lots of rentals.  So now is the perfect time to make the trip to Murphy!
