Blue Ridge, GA is just a short 20 minute drive from downtown Murphy and offers lots to do. The first thing to check out is the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. This railroad was built over 100 years ago and the ride starts at the historic depot built in 1905 in Blue Ridge and makes stops at McCayesville, GA and Ducktown, TN. The ride is a 26 mile round trip and you must check this out – a great attraction for the whole family!
Also in Blue Ridge is the Mercier’s Orchard. The ordhcard is a family run business for over 50 years. In October of 2002 Southern Living Magazine named it the “favorite roadside apple market”. The orchard grows over 20 varities of apples like, Gala, Red and Golden Delicious, Junagold, Rome, Stayman, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Fuji and others. Other fruits are also grown like Peaches, Blueberries, Blackberries and Raspberries. In the gift shop there are jullies, jams and gift items. But before you leave you must try one of the pastries, fried pies, fritters, doughnuts or dumplings. You wont want to miss out on this!
For more scenery go to Blue Ridge Lake! The lake is a 3,290 acre lake that offers beautiful scenery. It has over 90 national forest campsites, several boat ramps, a full service marina and public swimming and picnic areas. 80% of the surrounding land is USFS. Bring the boat and enjoy a fun filled day of sun, water and mountain scenery.
